Lubrication
All the moving parts of castors are treated with a grease containing specially prepared additives to form a protective layer to eliminate wear by preventing metal -to- metal contact. However, even the best of lubricants must be replenished if castors, other than those offered with sealed swivel heads are to continue to give good service. In most swivel heads this can be done with the aid of a pressure oil gun ensuring that the oil reaches the king pin head.
Most of the wheels fitted in heavy duty and extra heavy duty castors can be lubricated by means of either a grease nipple fitted in the wheel hub or the dimpled and drilled axle. Nylon wheel bushes are virtually self lubricating, but will benefit from occasional lubrication, particularly in very dusty conditions.
