Choose the Right Castor for Your Application
Selecting the correct castor depends on load capacity, floor surface, operating environment, wheel material, fixing type and manoeuvrability requirements. Bracket Types
The bracket type affects how the equipment moves, turns and handles under load.
Fixed Castors
Fixed castors, also known as rigid castors, provide straight-line movement and improved directional stability. They are commonly used on warehouse trolleys, transport platforms, workbenches and industrial handling equipment.
Swivel Castors
Swivel castors rotate through 360 degrees, making them suitable for equipment that needs to manoeuvre in tight spaces or change direction frequently.
Braked Castors
Braked castors help secure equipment when stationary and improve safety during loading, unloading or positioning. Depending on the model, brake options may include:
- Wheel brakes
- Foot-operated brakes
- Total-stop braking systems
Wheel Materials
Wheel material has a direct impact on rolling resistance, noise, floor protection, shock absorption, chemical resistance and load performance.
- Nylon wheels – hard-wearing, durable and low rolling resistance; suitable for smooth floors and heavy loads.
- Polypropylene wheels – lightweight, economical and resistant to many chemicals and moisture.
- Rubber wheels – quieter in use, with good grip and shock absorption for uneven or delicate floors.
- Polyurethane wheels – durable, floor-friendly and suitable for regular industrial use where load capacity and floor protection are important.
- Cast iron wheels – extremely strong and suitable for demanding industrial environments, high loads and rougher use.
