The brake on this castor is a Total Stop Brake which is also known as a Swivel and Wheel Brake. This means that when the brake is applied, not only is the wheel braked but the swivel action is also locked.
A Polyurethane tyre offers a low tractive resistance making it easier to get moving compared with softer rubber tread wheels. It is also a bit softer than hard tread wheels making the castor smoother and quieter running. Polyurethane is also non-marking and gentle on floors. This is a high quality, low maintenance, impact resistant wheel that has a high load capacity. The nylon material is extremely resistant to salts, greases, acids and alkalis and will not mark or damage concrete floors. This makes Nylon probably the most castor wheel material.
The wheel has a roller bearing in the hub (central part of the wheel) which consists of rollers made of steel within a cage. These rollers rotate between the axle tube and the wheel hub. This makes the rolling resistance of the bearing relatively slight, even under heavy loads. Roller bearings are rugged, robust and largely maintenance-free.
