Heavy-duty polyurethane-coated wheels can manage high loads because of their cast iron centres, but the polyurethane tyre is softer than most flooring and has a high tear strength. Polyurethane on cast iron wheels is much more durable than rubber tyres, with up to 10 times the lifetime under similar conditions and loads.

The Polyurethane tyre offers a low tractive resistance making it easier to get moving compared with softer rubber tread wheels. It is also a bit softer than hard tread wheels making it smoother and quieter running. The polyurethane tyre is also non-marking and gentle on floors while the roller bearing lowers the rolling resistance to reduce the effort required start the wheel rolling.
